Experienced Travel Consultant Alma has been with the Magic Tours International team for over 11 years. She says the travel industry was a natural career choice for her.
“I have always been very passionate about meeting new people, and their cultures along with discovering the world,” explains Alma.
“Multiculturalism is something I grew up with in former Yugoslavia, so in adding my love for history and geography to this, the travel industry was an obvious choice for me.”
Alma was born in Bosnia and Herzegovina, which she had to leave due to the war, before heading to Stuttgart, Germany for six years.
She moved to Australia in 1999, and has never looked back in her choice of work.
“My natural creativity and ability to pay attention to the smallest details, as well as my accumulated knowledge and experience in the industry helps me a lot in this role.”
As well travelled and experienced as she is, Alma finds it difficult to nominate just one place as her favourite destination in Europe.
“It’s hard to pick a favourite; all the places I have visited so far are equally beautiful in their own ways.”
When pushed, she says she would give a small preference to Paris.
“It is an amazing city where rich history and modern living are so well combined.”
She says a visit to the Louvre counts as one of her most memorable moments on a trip to Europe in recent times.
“I was so astounded by all the exhibits that were on offer and was in awe during my whole time there.”
She recommends that beyond the obvious places, such as Paris, London and Amsterdam, a traveller’s ‘must see’ list for Europe should include Dubrovnik, in Croatia, and Bruges in Belgium.
She explains: “Dubrovnik is like a medieval dream and is like nothing you’ve experienced before. More broadly, Croatia in general offers a fresh, Balkan spin on the very Westernised Europe that travellers are used to.”
Alma says Bruges is a fairy tale book with charm (and chocolate) that is hard to forget.
Her attention to the smallest details has come in handy over the years. Perhaps no more so, than when she had a client who wanted her to check the exact size of each bed in every room she’d booked them, in more than ten different 5 star hotels from all across Europe! An experience she describes as ‘unique, to say the least’.
